Health Education/Case Management
Support services for clinic patients addressing a variety of health care needs including pregnancy and parenting education, family planning, risk reduction and assistance with referrals.
Counseling
Service for youth, adolescents and their parents regarding a wide range of issues of importance to teens: relationships, anxiety, depression, anger management, eating disorders, sexuality and self esteem.
Healthy Families Program
Funding provided by Illinois Department of Human Services provides a home visiting parent education and support program for first time parents. The program services Jackson, Perry, Franklin and Williamson Counties.
Family Centered Services
Funding provided by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services provides case management services Jackson County youth with identified problems resulting in truancy, suspensions and /or expulsions. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidents of truancy, suspensions and expulsions for youth served by the program.
Prevention Services

Northeast Special Needs Project - Provides after school prevention programming for youth from NE Carbondale and public housing areas. Teen Peace and Peace Play groups meet weekly giving the youths opportunities to plan and participate in special events and community projects.

Teen R.E.A.C.H - Funding provided by Illinois Department of Human Services provides after school programming located at the Carbondale Middle School and in Murphysboro at the Murphysboro Youth and Recreation Center. The program works primarily with students in grade 6th, 7th, and 8th. Homework help, life skills, recreation, parent involvement and mentoring are key components of the program.
To apply for black lung benefits a miner must acquire and complete the Department of Labor application. All requests for black lung compensation must go through the Department of Labor and Shawnee Health Service black lung benefits counselors will assist with this process. Program personnel are very familiar with the application and medical evaluation process to assure that coal miners receive the proper care.

Shawnee Health Service counselors have a broad range of experience in developing “helping relationships” and working with patients from many different backgrounds. Services are aimed at the early detection, greater self-understanding, effective problems solving and informed decision making.
Farmer Migrant Social Services
Shawnee Health Service provides social services to migrant and seasonal farm workers in southern Illinois. A bilingual/bicultural outreach team enhances access to medical, dental and social services, providing interpretation services and transportation to health care appointments.
Senior Social Services
Shawnee Health Service’s social service staff offer help to seniors, arranging needed service such as financial assistance, medication assistance, housing, education and transportation. The types of staff available include case managers, outreach staff and health educators.
